Faery Fun Stuff

I love the talismans created by my good friend Storm Eldermoon. You can use these as true talismans, or wear them as object d'art pins. This one is a faery looking off into the distance.

You can get one of Storm's collectible mini masterpieces on ebay, or you can try to win the one pictured here from me. Also included are two bookmarks and more goody bags, one for you to keep and the other to gift to a special friend. :-)

To enter, simply leave a comment here on my blog. Contest ends midnight, March 17, 2011.
Good Luck!

Reviews both good, better...and ouch

Every author gets bad reviews now and then, just like we get rejections, the dreaded R's when we send out query letters, proposals, partials, and fulls (manuscript requests)*. It's a part of the business and eventually if you stick around long enough, you'll notice your skin gets a little thicker with every project you send out, every book you publish. Because not everyone will like what you write. Likewise, there will come times when you'll get a rave review or two and your grin will curve higher than the clouds. Savor those moments of pride and giddiness. Blog and tell your friends, post it on FB and Twitter. That way you can always go back and reread those little sugar cubes of happiness when the world drops out from under you when you get a truly snarky review.

Whether the bad review comes from an established review site or from a reader/reviewer/blogger, it still stings. The best thing you can do is shrug it off and keep writing. Remember, everyone has an opinion.

Until next time...

Substitute Plan

Since I had kidney stones on my birthday and my guy had stomach flu at the same time, we decided to celebrate my birthday this last Sunday. He took me to see True Grit. Okay, it's a known fact I really don't like westerns. Not in books, movies, or video games. However, True Grit is a classic and it got rave reviews. Plus I had to see if Jeff Bridges could fill the rather big boots of John Wayne. He did. And then some. This may be the very first western I've ever liked. It came across as real and authentic. A true piece of Americana. I would recommend everyone see this movie—even people like me who don't like westerns. It's that good.

The theater we went to is this huge place with all sorts of maze-like hallways and dozens of theater rooms. Of course the movie was playing in the very last theater in the back. So I grabbed the seats while my guy got the popcorn and drinks. The line wrapped half-way across the lobby, it was unreal. On the way out, after the movie, we stopped by the concession to get our refills on popcorn and drinks, since at those prices you want to get your monies worth. It was while in the line that my guy snapped this pic of a young woman with what looked like giant curlers in her hair. On closer inspection, we realized they were coke cans. Honest. I hope this is not a new fad or trend among our youth. ::shakes head::

Although I did love her friend's jacket. Looks like a shark. lol. I may have to see if anyone in SL can make a jacket like that for me, since I am Cassandra Sharktooth in SL. :P

Until next time...

Dreaming in Chocolate

Woke up this a.m. and first thing I do is start the coffee maker and then sit down to take my blood sugar. Being a diabetic, I'm always concerned about any spikes in my sugar levels. This morning it was the lowest it's been for a while, 102. The normal range is 80-120. I wasn't so low I was on the verge of fainting, but still 102 is low for me since I usually hug the 120 mark or higher, especially if I've been indulging in fast food.

Chocolate is usually a no-no, due to the sugar content, but I noticed something, an odd pattern in my levels. Every time I eat a couple of small pieces of dark chocolate, my sugar levels are lower the next day. What is up with that? Yesterday, I tested out my theory again, and today the glucose meter read 102. Go figure. Now, if it had been 170, I'd say the other times this happened, it was a fluke. But nope. So I'm looking at research online to see if there is any scientific validity to my personal findings.

If there is, then I may have to 'force' myself to eat dark chocolate every day. lol. Life is a hardship, but sometimes you gotta do what ya gotta do. :D

Oh and I recently came up with a new 'lol' type thing. It's lwp. I hope it catches on. If anyone tags it correctly and knows what it means, post a comment here on my blog and I'll enter you into a contest for a free ebook from my backlist.
Your choice. (contest ends February 20 at midnight).

Until next time...
