Spring Fling Derbyliciousness!

Hard to believe in just a few more days it'll be Derby Day. Now, some of ya'll may have no clue what I'm talkin' about, so I'll give you the quick lowdown on the subject.

The Kentucky Derby is always run the first Saturday in May, which this year will be May 4th. The Derby is a thoroughbred horse race, the first jewel in the triple crown of horse racing.

This year is also the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby, so as you can tell, folks in the bluegrass been doing this for a loong time. :)  The two weeks prior to Derby, the city kicks off with fireworks and all manner of festivities to celebrate the fastest 2 minutes in the sport of kings.

There's a Great Steamboat Race with the Belle of Louisville taking on the Delta Queen, a parade with floats and horses that travels downtown, a Great Balloon Race with hot air balloons, a golf challenge for hole in one, a bed on wheels race, and on Friday, The Oaks, also known as the Lillies for the Fillies, a stakes race for 3year old female horses.


Fillies can run in the Kentucky Derby, but only three fillies have ever won the Derby. Can you name them?

Spring Fling!

It finally feels like spring here in the bluegrass. Sunny days with the occasional sprinkle of showers, highs in the 70's, everything blooming, me sneezing. lol But after a lengthy and protracted winter, this is sheer bliss. The Derby is just around the corner, and I'm still waving my pom poms over Louisville winning the NCAA tourney this year.

It's also Spring Break for a lot of students in the USA, so it just seemed like the right time to celebrate and what better way than with a Spring Fling!

Virtual Mermaids

Odd as it may sound, there is something relaxing about real and virtual aquariums, even more than watching the fish, though, I love watching mermaids and mermaid ballet. It soothes some restless need I have, but since I don't live near Weeki Wachee Springs, I've discovered—virtually-speaking—the next best thing.

This is a side angle view of the stands (which started filling up) and the performers jumping out of the water and into the "air" and swishing fins and tails in synchronization. Like a lovely moving painting.

Compulsion Redux

This last month I've been rewriting and expanding a story I originally wrote several years ago. It was my very first contemporary erotic romance and admittedly, I've come a long way baby since the story was first published. Compulsion was also the shortest short story I ever wrote, clocking in at only 11k. I always hated that and wished I'd taken more time to flesh it out, but I was so entrenched in erotic paranormal, that I struggled with the little story and found myself sneaking in paranormal elements! lol Bad Cassie!

So once I removed all hints of ghosts, of vampires, or mermaidesque snippets, I was left with a raw 12K, which after trimming and tidying up left me with the 11k. I liked the story, but honestly couldn't wait to jump back into my next paranormal.

In retrospect, I realize now I wanted to challenge myself by seeing if I could even write contemporary. I didn't fail, but the experiment was a learning lesson and since then, I've learned even more. Then last year a reader emailed to ask me what happened after the story ended. I always envisioned the MCs (Jack and Lindsay) traveling the world together, before returning to their Colorado home and building a new business as a team.

Over the years, I also received emails asking about my secondary character, Lindsay's friend and Jack's personal assistant, Tegan. I decided then, if I ever got a chance to rewrite Compulsion, I'd include more info about Tegan and his own love story as part of a subplot.

I hope to unveil the new cover for Compulsion by the end of April and release my newly expanded version of the story this May.

I hope readers who bought the original story will check out the new version and reunite with all my characters.
