Genre: Paranormal Romance

Rhia Atkinson is a woman on the run. The same vicious creatures that killed her mother are on the hunt, and she’s the prey. She’d come to terms with her solitary existence until Drake came along, igniting her dreams of family and belonging. Traditions as old as time stand in her way as she tries to convince Drake that he’s her choice for a mate. With the enemy breathing down her neck, she has to figure out how to make it work before she ends up joined to a stranger, or worse, dead.
Drake Sperwell has spent years searching for one woman, the Queen of Avalore. Time is running out. With the survival of their species hanging in the balance, failure is not an option. What he didn’t count on was his reaction to the woman. Or his dragon’s need to claim her as its mate. Denying their chemistry might just kill him, but she’s off limits. Her destiny lies with her true mate in Avalore.

Still, becoming a single mother is daunting, so when she spots Mason’s Wife Wanted ad on the Internet one night, she’s ready for a few laughs. She’s sure the ad must be fake, but when Mason answers back, she soon finds herself wanting more than a long distance relationship.

But when he whisks her off for a trial run in Chance Creek, they’re in for an unpleasant surprise. Coming Attractions Available For Pre-Order
SHADOW FIRES
Catherine Spangler
Release date: June 8, 2015
Preorder available now!
http://www.amazon.com/dp/
Jenna dan Aron, a Shielder, lives a solitary existence, shunned by her people because she has visions and can see the future. She’s even foreseen her own destiny: to be a human offering, a mate for a savage Leor warlord.
When two Shielder colonies need to be rescued, the Leors who are their only hope demand a bride for their leader in return. Knowing she can’t deny fate, Jenna steps forward.
The Leors are a hybrid race and only part human. Arion of Saura finds mating outside his race abhorrent, but he has no choice, as his kind faces extinction. His life is ruled by hard logic and physical prowess, with no room for softness or emotion. Bound to him, Jenna faces a life of barbarism with a mate who seems more beast than man. In the relentless heat of the wild Sauran desert, Jenna and Arion wage a battle of wills, until they discover that the heart is mightier than any weapon—and that love can forge shadow and fire together.
I've long been a fan of the Shielder series from Ms. Spangler, so my expectations were pretty high.
I read the first page with my fingers crossed that I wouldn't be disappointed, and I wasn't. With incredibly deft handling, Ms. Spangler managed to make the reader feel every emotion Jenna had, all the worry, trepidation, and the sadness. Once on Saura, Jenna had to battle her dislike and mistrust, but you could see the budding romance to come, all in the subtle details. Each chapter moved the story forward, providing glimpses into each of the main character's state of mind.
The hero, Arion is formidable at first, even a little scary in true alpha fashion, but soon we learn he's made of more than sheer muscle and arrogance.
I won't give away spoilers, but I can promise lovers of SFR and Ms. Spangler will cheer when they finish Shadow Fires. I know I did. Is it too early to rub my hands together in anticipation for book six in the series?* ;)
*Please note that an ARC of this book was provided free of cost for review, but in no way influences my opinion. Honestly, few things do. Just ask Bear. lol

When Tessie King inherited the Royal Palace Hotel, Lake Tahoe's biggest resort, she inherited a cranky board of directors along with it. A board that is demanding higher revenues, or Tessie's out. Faced with the possibility of losing her father's legacy, Tessie turns to her staff to help her come up with a plan: film the season finale of Battle Buffet, the hottest cooking competition show on TV, at the resort. It's a scheme sure to bring in the big bucks.
But is also brings big trouble. When one of the casino's wealthiest clients is found dead on the gaming floor, and the killer comes up incognito on the security footage, everyone is a suspect—from the television crew to the blue haired retirees at the slots. Tessie teams up with her stepmother-turned-BFF and her snowboarding teenage crush in a race against the clock to repair the casino's reputation, dodge mob accusations from the hot FBI agent on the case, and track down a killer before any more of her big spenders end up sleeping with the fishes.
Love the Tahoe Tessie series and have Hey Big Spender on order. The book sounds like my kind of fun whodunnit romp.

A Day In The Life (Of A Writer): Shelley Munro
My guest today is friend and author Shelley Munro. Her latest book, Captured & Seduced, was just released.Being a fan of SFR and race horses, the combination had me squeeing with joy. And the hawt hunk on her cover sure captured my attention.
I sat down with Shelley to talk about her writing process, her latest book, and her seductive feline shapeshifting hero, Ryman. ::purrs::
So Shelley, what is your typical day like? Do you try to keep to a writing schedule?
My typical day is fairly boring, especially at the moment because I’m pushing to get a new book done before hubby and I head off on holiday. I usually crawl out of bed at the same time as hubby and we walk our dog together. It’s a nice way to start the day. If I want to write a lot and fast, I’ll work at one of my favorite cafes and write for the morning. Afternoons are full of administration stuff, edits and more writing if I don’t complete my word count during the morning.
I function better if I exercise, so depending on the weather, I go for a bike ride or take our dog for a long walk in the afternoon too.
Evenings are taken up with more promo and keeping up with loops, blogs and social media. Life as a full-time writer takes more hours than I ever used to work at my administration job.
What sparked your imagination and made you write this particular book?
I wrote this book several years ago with an eye to getting an agent, but no one was ready for sci-fi romance with alien race horses. My prospective agent wasn’t interested. I have always loved sci-fi romance, and I found a home for this book. When an opportunity came to regain the rights, I jumped at the chance since I’ve always wanted to make this book into a series.
During the writing of this book I chucked in all the elements I like—shapeshifters, aliens, space ships. My husband used to have an interest in race horses, so I tossed in a form of alien horses and the book practically wrote itself.
I’m working on book two—Claimed & Seduced—right now and having a ball. I love making stuff up.
Can you tell us a little about the chemistry between your hero and heroine?
Ryman Coppersmith, my hero, was adopted and knows nothing of his background. The fact that he’s a feline shapeshifter comes as a huge shock, and he’s dealing with the strange facets of his heritage as they surface. He takes one look at Camryn and his feline nature goes berserk. At the start of the book they’re both confused about their attraction to one another. Camryn panics and tries to push him away, while Ry can’t seem to give her space. He needs her to train their hell-horse, and he craves her presence in his life. It’s fun watching the two circle each other and give into their desire.
Ooh, this book sounds too good to pass up. My Nook will be happy. :)

Friday Finds: Stargazer by Colby Hodge
Oasis series, book one
Do not revive without authorization. Those were the words stamped on the cryo tube holding the prisoner. Lilly gazed at the prisoner and sensed the rage and frustration within him. Yet she tied her fate to his when their ship was attacked. Chased by Ravigans across the universe, she had no choice put to put her trust in Phoenix. But how was he able to penetrate her mind, filling it with teasing suggestions and sensual images, when that talent had always belonged exclusively to the generations of grey-eyed women in her line? Was the devil with the silver gaze the key to saving her beloved planet of Oasis, or just a common criminal out to take for himself whatever he could get his hands on?

Underwater Pyramids and The Shimryn Connection
From what I understand, sometime last year two underwater "glass-like" pyramids were found in the Bermuda Triangle and identified with sonar, over 2,000 meters deep, resting on the ocean floor. This is according to a Dr. Verlag Meyer, who is supposedly an oceanographer. The pyramid is also said to be smooth and partially translucent.
Which makes the skeptic observer in me ask why such an amazing find is getting little air time on TV or from credible news sources? You'd think a true archeological find like this would be on every mainstream media outlet. Then again, the Bermuda Triangle cannot compare to the social significance of Kardashian mania or Honey Boo Boo [insert sarcasm]. Even so, you'd think it would get more than a very minor mention on MSNBC's weird news segment.
Also, with both American and French scientists supposedly conducting surveys of the Bermuda Triangle's seabed, you'd think there would be at least a few French news outlets covering the story, given that one of the greatest explorers our world has known, was Jacques Cousteau. But the story didn't surface, except on internet.
My German is about as non-existent as my Spanish, so I did some digging and Verlag is the German word for publisher, but the only legitimate reference I could find to Verlag Meyer is a German publisher of sports-related books and training manuals. The closest I could find to anything Bermuda Triangle related (both involve water, lol) on their website was a book entitled, How To Be A Surfer. http://www.m-m-sports.com/shop/en/how-to-be-a-surfer-4916.html.
Yeah, something tells me this whole glass pyramids of the Bermuda Triangle may all be fiction. See, I know a little about fiction, since I write it. Without tangible facts that can be checked and cross-checked, then verified, the "pyramid" crumbles faster than a sugar cookie hit with a hammer.
[Watch National Geographic's Bermuda Triangle documentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALF-4ubvhzQ]
All we really know is something about the area has caused ships and planes to disappear, instrumentation panels to go bonkers, and freak storms to pop up with little warning. Whether these incidences are due to unusual but perfectly natural phenomena or something more akin to science fiction, is something you have to decide for yourselves.
Which of course, didn't stop me from adding my own fictional spin to the Bermuda Triangle. The back story for both my Shifting Tides series and my upcoming Tales of The Shimryn series is centered at the centuries old mystery. In Shifting Tides, merfolk and other aquatic shapeshifters go undetected by humans for the most part, living their lives both underwater and on land. Their ability to shapeshift is based on myth and magic, but also rooted in their DNA.
The Tales of The Shimryn series blends both mythology and science fiction, giving readers a plausible (fictional) explanation for the disturbances in the Bermuda Triangle, as well as the Devil's Triangle. The Shimryn are explorers and scientists who long ago set up an outpost on Earth, but lost contact with the colony several millennia ago. That colony was, of course, Atlantis. The mystery of what happened to Atlantis had captured their peoples imagination as well. It was decided by the Shimryn Stellari (science council) that a second Shimryn team would be sent to investigate, but they too, disappeared. Between wars and politics, it was quite some time before a third team was sent, and what that team discovered was a world unlike any they'd known, over 3/4ths of the planet covered with liquid. Using the Shimryn understanding of intelligence, the only sentient beings they discovered lived under this strange substance called water, so they created their new outpost very near the site where the original had been. And yes, it was on the ocean floor of the Bermuda Triangle.
Since the Tales Of The Shimryn is a crossover series with Shifting Tides, readers can expect to see a mermaid or two swim their way into a couple of the stories, but there will be more emphasis on SFR than PNR. Book one in the series is Sparkle, which continues the prequel short story, Shimmer.

Hot eBook Fun - MetalMark by Ella Drake
MetalMark by Ella Drake
I love SFR (Science Fiction Romance) having cut my teeth on authors like Ursula K. LeGuin, C.J. Cherryh, Sharon Green, Carole Nelson Douglas, Saranne Dawson, Linnea Sinclair, and Tara K. Harper. So I have certain expectations when I read SFR. But since I’m a relative newcomer to Steampunk and Gaslight romances, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened MetalMark by author Ella Drake.
The hero of her story is a futuristic prince née figurehead named Lye, whose world, Brutus, is steam-powered. Known as Lye the Keeper, he’s under the parasitical thumb of the universe’s bad guys, The Syndicate. With Brutus under occupation by Syndicate overseers and his people enslaved with the insectoid MetalMarks, he’s left with no option but to give in to their demands and hope to help his people by way of a seat on the The Syndicate’s council.
In a very fun turn of events, help comes to the rescue in the form of one Jazzelina Eval, an infamous space pirate queen. Jazz makes a deal with a black marketeer to kidnap the handsome prince, but once she gets a look at him, she decides to keep him for herself.
Plenty of intrigue, romance, and swashbuckling futuristic derring-do, MetalMark rates high marks as a sexy and fun ebook.
Disclosure: While I did win this ebook in a contest, that doesn’t change my opinion of the skilled story craft of the author, or enjoyable nature of this novel.

Love With A Dragon (excerpt and contest!)
Imagine a world with high deserts and cliffs, caverns and sagebrush. Now imagine in every cavern, every mountaintop are huge, spacious aeries; each having a stone railing wide enough so that an adult dragon could perch there and see panoramic vistas stretching as far as the city lights of the human populated Newtown, an urban area very reminiscent of late twentieth century Los Angeles.
Ever since the first colony ship landed on their planet over a hundred years ago, they sensed the newcomers would be a threat to their way of life. They hid their nature, shapeshifting and blending in with these strange invaders to their homeworld. Watching the humans, interacting with them so closely, confidant in their ability to fool them while they spied on them, the Dragonkind convinced themselves they could move through Newtown's populace without incidence and hide their own homesteads.
So it was inevitable that one of these humans would eventually stumble upon a frightening discovery, seeing a dragon from old Earth myth soar in flight. Thinking the creature some kind of flying alien lizard, potentially dangerous and possibly in greater numbers, the colony's militia was notified. The creature was shot down and human soldiers were sent out to hunt for more of these 'dragons' in the name of public safety, and thus starting a twenty-five year long war. Peace came hard fought, with no real winners.
Open Season takes place over twenty years after the treaty between humans and Dragonkind. Tentative friendships emerge and pacts are made between the dominant dragons and a few curious and brave human submissives (called fawns by the Dragons) in Newtown's club district. Tensions arise when the Dragon's ritual mating hunt is challenged and humans are allowed for the first time to watch and even participate.
I wanted to explore bdsm in a different light and what better way than in a futuristic and alien world where the real answer to the question of why is hidden beneath the lies we tell ourselves.

Open Season by Cassandra Curtis

The constant, overwhelming drive to claim and mark her as a mate had been the impetus causing him to withdraw, at least temporarily, from her company. Season's eagerness to please made her an excellent bottom, but she was human and he knew better than to take her fully in the ways of his kind. She wouldn't understand what claiming meant to him and what it would mean for her—not that the dragon council of elders would allow a human to enter the sacred mating hunt.
Besides, a solitary existence had served him well over the years. If, at odd times he ached for the closeness of a life mate, he hid it, scorning the emotion and the temptation. Seeking out submissive humans, playing D/s games, and telling himself he was satisfied had become routine.
He stood on the warehouse roof across the street and watched Season exit the building alone. Stupid girl! Why hadn't she waited for Nalita? Didn't she understand her very tempting and precarious situation? The warehouse district was a rough area, despite the cops who made the circuit, driving past in their police cruisers.
A woman needed protection, some deterrent for the thieves and thugs, prowling the streets at night. Season wore an impossibly short bronze miniskirt and chocolate leather ankle boots, her hips swaying the slightest bit as she made her way to her car, stepping over the slushy puddles left from a recent snowstorm. Her long blond hair was tied in a ponytail, her shimmery brown sweater dipped low, exposing the creamy curves of her breasts. She'd come to Nalita's ready to play—without him.
What did you expect? Season is a submissive-in-training. It wasn't her place to call and invite him. That wasn't how their arrangement worked. He was the one in control. If he'd wanted to go with her to Nalita's party, he should have called her and told her. That was the problem. She expected more from their relationship, and he'd become the nervous fawn. How could he call himself a Dom and yet be—? No, he wouldn't even say it. He wasn't…afraid.
“Master Dragonairre, a word with you, sir.”
Startled from his thoughts, Quinn turned to see his second, Jace, standing behind him. The roar of an engine divided his attention. Season drove away. “What?” He replied, his tone brusque.
“Sir, the guild asked to speak with you regarding the upcoming solstice festivities.” His second stood firm despite the withering glance Quinn cast his way.
“What do they want now?”
“I believe it has something to do with the official hunt, sir.”
“Very well. Perhaps they've come to their senses.”
“I hope so, sir. Our war with the humans is ancient history. The guild should allow them to enter the hunt.”
“Jace, for those of us who lived through that dark time, the bitterness still lingers in our memories. We have to move past it in order to secure our future, yes, but it'll take time for the clans who fought so hard and lost so much.” Damn, that sounded like part of a campaign speech, even though it was true. Bad enough his position granted him a vote.
He despised most of the supercilious bastards on the guild's council. The politicians chose to ignore him when it suited them, but all too often, it was his vote that was the deciding factor.
Whether the humans only acted as observers, or full participants in the hunt, he knew the decision would mean sweeping changes to his people's way of life…and his own. The opportunity to call Season his life mate should be worth any price—except her safety. He'd do anything, including push her away, to keep her safe from harm.
If he showed too much care for her welfare, or treated her any differently than other fawns he'd trained in the past, his enemies would know. The war had already placed a high a burden on him,
and cost him dearly. Ignoring Season pained him, but losing her through an act of revenge or retribution for something he'd done in the war, twisted his guts in knots.
Quinn stretched, back arched, his shoulders pulled forward in preparation for the change. Dense connective tissue twined together, forming elongated fingers on the underside of his arms.
Leathery crimson membrane grew between the new cartilage and bone. Stretched from wing tip to tip, the span neared twenty feet long.
He lowered onto his haunches and gazed one last time at the building across the street. Smoke unfurled from his flared nostrils as he saw Nalita lock the heavy double doors and chain them tight. She turned, a stun-stick in her hand. Good girl. The weapon was a nasty piece of work, hard to obtain unless you had connections inside the police force or within the upper echelon of black marketers—both of which Nalita had.
“I take it we're not driving?” Jace dropped to his knees, as similar bat-like wings sprouted from his back. His clothes dissolved beneath shiny blue and gold scales, absorbed into his very DNA matrix.
“Not this time. We fly!” Quinn stepped off the roof and soared into the emerging dawn of an amethyst streaked sky.

A submissive-in-training, Season knows the
boundaries, but that doesn’t stop her from crossing them, or from
falling in love with her master and wanting more. When the ban against
life-mating between humans and Dragonkind is lifted, she jumps at the
chance to enter the ritual hunt and claim her master as mate. Despite
the dangers and risks, she knows their love is worth it, even if her
masterful dragon doesn’t.
Quinn knew accepting the position as
General of the Dragon Army came with risks and that his enemies would
look for any weakness they could use against him. But he never realized
how fast lust could turn to love, or desire to need.
When an old foe from the war notices
Quinn’s growing attraction and deeper involvement with Season, Quinn is
caught between two difficult choices—pretend indifference to the woman
he’s grown to love, or enter the Solstice Hunt and risk everything to
claim his human mate.

A favorite book returns: Shield's Lady by Jayne Ann Krentz
There are so many moth-eaten books I loved and wished I had ebook copies of, that whenever I see mention of one coming out in ebook format, I literally cheer. Honest. I pumped my fist in the air and yipped when I saw that Shield's Lady by Jayne Ann Krentz was now available in ebook! Woot! Thank you so much Jayne for making this happen. I had two copies of Shield's Lady by Amanda Glass in paperback. Two because the first one fell in the bathtub the night after I bought it, and then had to get a second copy to replace the first. That second copy has been read and reread about a hundred times over the years. I love the story premise, the plot is incredible and the characters reach out and grab you and once you start, you can't stop reading until the end. The story is fast-paced, oozing with sensuality, a full on paranormal/SFR which was hot (back before we had erotic romance), and still holds up well, imo.My Nook is soo happy to add this ebook to it's library! :-)
A Jayne Ann Krentz Classic. Now available in ebook.
Legends can be dangerous, just ask Sariana Dayne. She sets out to hire one and wakes up married to him. It’s a marriage of infuriating inconvenience as far as Sariana is concerned.
Gryph Chassyn stirs all her senses but he’s one of the mysterious mercenaries known as Shields. Sensible women do not marry such men. But for Gryph, marrying Sariana is a matter of honor, passion and survival. He needs her in ways she cannot even imagine.
